Coast Guard conducts medevac off Catalina Island

CATALINA ISLAND, Calif. — The Coast Guard conducted a medevac of a 35-year-old female from Catalina Island as a result of medical concerns at approximately 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received the request for a medevac from the Los Angeles County Fire Department at 3:54 p.m.

A MH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Los Angeles, joined by a Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedic, is transporting the woman from Catalina Island to Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

While the nature of the distress in this case was not maritime related, this evening's actions highlight the Coast Guard's ability to assist local partners in providing essential service to the people of southern California.
