COAST GUARD MONITORS GROUNDED VESSEL NEAR KEWALO BASIN

HONOLULUCoast Guard crews are monitoring a vessel that ran aground Thursday at 11 p.m. near Kewalo Basin.

The Coast Guard received a distress call via VHF radio Thursday evening from the master of the 47-foot fishing vessel Robin. The captain reported his vessel, with five people aboard, ran aground and was taking on water.

Crewmembers from Coast Guard Station Honolulu and Hawaii Fire Department personnel responded to the call for assistance. 

The crew made it safely ashore on a life raft. 

The Pacific Environmental Corporation (PENCO) is onscene attempting to remove the Robin's fuel. There are no reports of pollution in the water.
