The Coast Guard received a call from the owner of the 76-foot fishing vessel Sapphire II 580 miles southwest of Oahu at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday concerning a crewmember who suffered an eye injury.

The crew of the Coast Guard cutter Walnut, a 225-foot buoy tender homeported here, was in the vicinity of the Sapphire II and was diverted to assist the injured man.

The cutter Walnut sailed within 115 miles of Oahu and an HH-65 Dolphin rescue crew from Air Station Barbers Point medically evacuated the patient to St. Francis West Medical Center.
