Correction: Coast Guard Searches for Missing Los Angeles Tourist Off Maui HONOLULU - The Coast Guard and the Maui Fire Department today continue to search the waters and shoreline near Keawakapu Beach, Maui, for a swimmer who was reported overdue Wednesday evening. Coast Guard Sector Honolulu launched a 47-foot motor life boat from Station Maui and an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point after receiving the inital call at 8:30 p.m. from the Maui Police Department stating that a 75-year-old man went swimming and he did not return. Within an hour of the initial call both Coast Guard rescue crews were onscene to assist the Maui Fire Department personnel with the search. The Coast Guard is searching about nine miles off shore and seven miles along the shorline from Molokini Crater to Maalaea Harbor. The crewmembers of the Coast Guard Cutter Galveston Island, 47-foot motor life boat from Station Maui and Maui Fire Department are conducting extensive search patterns that started early this morning. The helicopter crew searched thoughout the night with no results. ###
